TULUM TRAVEL GUIDE
Tulum is definitely worth all of the hype! It is the cutest little rustic beach town but with all of the things to do. From laying on the beach all day long, to shopping in the cute shops, to enjoying very hip restaurants, to ending the night in a club(if thats your thing) Tulum really had it all and for all age groups. This was a much needed trip with just the two of us for the first time post our first baby and it was the perfect getaway! To get there we flew from ATL to Cancun and then had our resort arrange us a driver from Cancun to Tulum which was about an hour and 45 min drive. We stayed at The Beach Tulum, due to so many recommendations from friends and it was wonderful! We were there from Wednesday to Sunday and I thought that was the perfect amount of time. The great thing about going here was at the time (we went in April 2021) we didn’t need a Covid test to get into Mexico and only had to get a negative test to get back to the US, which we set up through our hotel. I was kind of freaking out about this but it was no big deal at all! The doctors came to the resort and did your test and you got it back that night. The hotel printed off the results for you, so easy! Overall it was such a cool place and we will definitely be going back.
WHERE TO STAY:
The Beach Tulum - it is an adult only boutique hotel with suites that include either a porch pool on the bottom floor or if you stay in an upstairs room you have a rooftop pool and area all to yourself which is what we did! The Beach Tulum was great for us because it was quiet and relaxing, not as much partying as some of the others resorts, which is what we wanted! We also loved the location because we could walk almost everywhere. Highly recommend.
La Zebra - we went here for drinks on the beach for the day and we had a blast! It seemed like a nice play to stay and so fun! Way more upbeat and a lot more going on but would be good if you went with a group of friends and wanted that kind of vibe. Also in a very good location for all of the restaurants.
Hotel Panamera - we went here for a pool day and it was fabulous! Would definitely look into staying there next time we go! You aren’t on the beach in your room like you are at The Beach Tulum but it is right there just a few steps away. The food and drinks here were also so yummy!
WHERE TO EAT:
Hartwood - this was our last meal and the most casual but the food was amazing! Couldn’t read the menu at all(none of it was in english) but we ordered the credo as an app and it was one of my favorite things we ate all week. (cash only)
Kin Toh - this was the most picturesque place we went - dinner in a treehouse! It was worth every penny just for the views! Make a reservation as soon as you book your trip because it books up fast!
Posada Margarita - a yummy Italian restaurant right on the beach! It wasn’t far from our resort so we walked here for lunch! Definitely would go back!
Ziggy’s - this was right next to our hotel so we got this for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks throughout the trip. Another great thing about The Beach Tulum is that breakfast from Ziggy’s or Fresco’s is free everyday! Can go there or get room service.
Fresco’s - went here for breakfast one day, was good but would have gotten it delivered to our room next time because the views are not as great as Ziggy’s or your room
Hotel Panamera - went for a pool day - had great margaritas and lunch was delicious. Get the burrata pizza!
Casa Jaguar - so fun for dinner, it was such a vibe! They had smoke that kept the bugs away and you ate pretty much in the jungle. Their bartenders were wonderful - they don’t have a drink menu but make drinks based off of what you like.
Mulberry Project at La Zebra - this was a bar on the beach at the La Zebra hotel that we ate lunch and had drinks at for a while, they had great tacos and guac. They don’t have a drink menu so it was fun for them to create yummy cocktails based on what you like. The bartenders were so fun and personable! Also one of the only beach bars we went to that had frozen cocktails as an option.
Rosa Negra - we had this our very first night. We didnt have reservations anywhere to just kind of wandered here although I did have it on my list as an option to go! Very loud music but was really fun and the food was good too! Get the short rib tacos!
Real Coconut Kitchen - this was on our list to try for breakfast but we never made it because we had great breakfast at our hotel. Heard it was amazing! (healthier option)
Nomade - was on our list but never got to try.
Arca - was also on our list but didn’t have time to try.
Mur Mur - was also on our list but didn’t have time to try.
**Something to note - We are used to eating early and everyone here eats late! When we did go early one night we were the only ones there. But definitely go early for Kin Toh to see the sunset**
**Cash is king - everyone took the US dollar, wish we would have gotten just some pesos from our bank to have for tip money**
**The bugs were bad but they had bug spray at almost every hotel and restaurant so I never really noticed**
WHAT TO DO:
Relax on the beach - this is the main reason we even traveled here and really all we did! The Beach Tulum where we stayed had us beach beds for each room and they would come and take your drink order as well.
Walk down the beach to different beach bars and lunch spots that I named above!
Shop - tons of cute shops to walk in
Bike and explore Tulum - we never did this but it looked fun! Our hotel had bikes we could use for free if we wanted to.
Spa - The Beach Tulum looked like it had a great spa and I wish I went to it! But I didn’t want to miss any sunshine!
Explore the Tulum ruins - we didn’t do this but if you are one to want to have a lot to do this looked fun!
Yoga - our hotel had complimentary yoga classes every morning
I hope you enjoy Tulum as much as we did! Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!
